It is always bittersweet when the end of the school year arrives. I love what I do for a living, and what makes it even better is that it provides necessary connection time for the youth I work with. We are living in a highly stressful world based on uncertainty, and kids feel this at a very young age. I did notice this school year had an added level of anxiety for all students that visited the program. The overwhelming access to information and social media has not had a positive effect on our youth.
Interacting and connecting with a horse creates a new way to communicate with ourselves, process and explore behaviors and relationship patterns that have become problematic.
I am fortunate that more schools are coming around to the idea of an outside program with horses - we have a lot of kids to connect to horses. - Janet
